Simsbury High School Varsity Rugby celebrates 15 years
The Simsbury High School Rugby program has given many students a life long love for the game of Rugby & many oppertunities over 15 years.
The Simsbury High School Varsity Rugby program will enter it's 15th year this spring and has acheived national and international recognition with it's dedication to growing the game and the students love for the game of Rugby. The program has both girls and boys teams and compete in Rugby Connecticut and throughout the Northeast. The teams will begin their 2021 campaign with the start of practice this weekend.
The program has provided many oppertunities to high school students over the past 15 years with many milestones and acheivments. The teams had a fantastic experience in 2019 taking 47 boys and 10 girls to Ireland to play 3 games and embrace the Irish Culture while putting Simsbury on the map in the international Rugby community. The program became the first athletic program to compete internationaly for Simsbury High School. The boys also toured Washington DC in 2017 with a self guided tour inside the White House , musuems and monuments while finishing 2nd at the Cherry Blossom High School tourneyment.
The sport has also given many players a fantastic gateway into college culture and experiences. In 2019 , Simsbury High school had 24 Rugby players participating in College Rugby across the country at all levels and many times against each other. Many players have found Rugby to be the pathway to campus life and provide the ability to have 30 new friends imediatetly stepping into college life.

The program has been very fortunate to have passionate support over the 15 years. The school administration has been a fantastic advocate for the game and provided a succesful platform over the past 15 years for the program to grow. The program has been very fortunate to have strong parent/booster club support with team activities , community outreach , and being a cheerleader for the game of Rugby. We have also been fortunate to have a strong coaching staff with many volunteers that share their love for the game.
The program is very happy to celebrate 1 5 years and looking forward to many more years of being Humble and Hungry while growing our Rugby culture.
