Westfarms Store Owes State Over $600,000 in Taxes

The store owes the most for businesses, but the list of delinquent income taxpayers also includes a Simsbury business.

A store at the Westfarms Mall owes the state over $600,000 in taxes, according to the latest list of delinquent taxpayers.

Sephora owes $620,655.10, but according to the Hartford Courant, is planning on contesting it.

In the individual category, Mohamad Chreiha and Fatan Elmokdad, of South Windsor, are at the top and owe $ 1,530,297.72.

The Courant is reporting that Elmokdad, a realtor in Coldwell Banker’s South Windsor office, says she is not the person on the Top 50 list, though she acknowledged knowing Chreiha.

Chreiha is listed as owner of T&H Auto Transport of Manchester, Vernon Citgo on Talcotville Road in Vernon, North-East Independent Services of South Windsor, and New Britain Auto Sales of New Britain.

The state’s list, maintained by the Department of Revenue Services, includes accounts unpaid for more than 90 days after the expiration of all appeal rights. The lists, updated quarterly, do not include anyone attempting to negotiate a payment or providing documentation that would reduce the taxes owed, accounts considered uncollectable, under bankruptcy protection, or involved in a criminal investigation.
