Wrestler From Simsbury Wins Class L Title
The Class L wrestling championships were decided Saturday at Bristol Central High School.

ACROSS CONNECTICUT — A little bit of everything could be found at the CIAC class wrestling meets Saturday, spread across four venues in different parts of the state. One school won its 22nd class championship in 31 years, while another program captured its first-ever state title. Two team championships were decided by fewer than six points, while two others were dominated by teams winning by more than 40 points. Finally, in what is believed to be a first in state history, two wrestlers with inverted names won consecutive weight classes in the Class LL meet.
Danbury won its fourth straight LL title, and 22nd since 1989, by compiling 269 points to 227 for runner-up Fairfield Warde. The Hatters' Ryan Jack won the 138-lb. division, immediately after the 132-lb. victory by Jack Ryan of Trumbull.
Xavier edged Simsbury by a 243-240.5 margin to eke out the Class L championship, the first for the Falcons since capturing the Class LL and State Open titles in 2012. In another close battle, the Suffield/Windsor Locks co-op earned its first state title with 187 points, just ahead of Foran's 181.5. Finally, host Killingly breezed to the Class S crown with 207 points, 50 ahead of Haddam-Killingworth.
