Many Stuck Vehicles Reported Amid Flash Flooding In Stratford
In one case, the water was so high it nearly reached the windows of the trapped vehicle.
STRATFORD, CT — Stratford firefighters had a busy evening Friday, responding to 10 calls involving vehicles trapped in standing water, all within three hours.
“Please do not attempt to drive through standing water on the road,” Stratford Professional Firefighters IAFF 998 said in a Facebook post just after 9 p.m. Friday. “You never know how deep it is.”
As of about 7 p.m. Friday, thunderstorms had generated up to 3 inches of rain in southern Fairfield County, with flash flooding expected due to the downpour. The Stratford firefighters union posted several photos Friday on Facebook, showing flooded roads and underpasses, including one in which the water was so high it nearly reached the windows of the stuck vehicle.
