Bunnell Girls Set The Tone Early On Opening Day
Bernadel, Ciotti, Cruz, Jockers, and Phommachnah, Star For The Locals
On Monday April 19th the South West Conference presented the Bunnell Bulldog Girls Track and Field Team against the Immaculate Mustang girls at Bunnell High School. It was the opening day for both teams.
The Lady Bulldogs came in bolstering a roster of forty-two athletes and after a high spirited three weeks of training were more than prepared for this matchup.
The weather stayed partly cloudy throughout, temperatures in the upper 50’s, and no wind creating calm conditions.

The 4X800 relay started the meet off, with Bunnell’s Kendall Dolan, Dannah Urban, Paige Jockers, and Joclyn Ciotti. They ran unopposed, turning in a time of 12:13.
The 100 High Hurdles saw Bunnell’s Natalie Baldowski and Lauren Fenton take the first two spots with times of 21.9 seconds and 24.4 seconds respectively.

Immaculate’s Ashley Nicoletti also enjoyed a good start to her season as she took two first place finishes home with her. In the 100 meter dash she outdueled Bunnell’s Kaylah Phommachnah with a fast paced finish of 12.8 seconds. Phommachnah in at 12.9. Third was Bunnell’s Kendall Dolan at 14.7 seconds.
Nicoletti also took first in the 200 meter event with a 26.8 seconds win. Second was Bunnell’s Mia Noisette at 28.2 seconds. Third was Bunnell’s Amyra Bernadel at 31.2 seconds.
In the 1600 meter event, Ciotti took first place for the home team in a time of 6:46. Jockers was second at 6:52. Bunnell’s Meghan Fenton was third completing the sweep in a time of 7:05.
Bernadel added to Bunnell’s scoring column in the 400 meter dash with a first place finish of 71.2 seconds. Immaculate’s Julong Williams was second at 71.3 seconds and Bunnell’s Dolan was third at 72.1 seconds.
Meanwhile in the field events, Bunnell’s JoJo Cruz may have had the Bulldog’s best afternoon with three first place finishes.
Cruz took the top spots in the Javelin (72’-3”), the shot put (33’-9”), and the Discus with a heave of 66’-4”.
Bunnell’s Isabella Rivera also had a strong effort in the field events. Rivera took second in the Javelin (60’-0”), second in the Shot Put (26’-2”), and third in the Discus (49’-8”).
Third in the Javelin was Bunnell’s Molisha Belony at 51’-10”.
Second in the Discus was Bunnell’s Farah Hamada at 49’-8” . F. Hamada also took third in the Shot Put with a throw of 21’-4.50”.
In the 300 Hurdles it was a Bunnell sweep again as Urban was tops with a time of 65.9 seconds. Baldowski was second at 73.0 seconds. Third was L. Fenton at 75.7 seconds.
In the 800 meter race, Bunnell won another sweep. First place went to Haily Cunliffe at 2:54. Second place was Rose Nieto at 2:59. In third was Erin Ickowitz in a time of 3:32.
In the 3200 meter race Bunnell ran unopposed. Jockers out paced Ciotti (14:46) with a time of 14:39. In third, Urban at 15:13.
As the 3200 meter race was taking place the jumping events were coming to a conclusion.
In the Long Jump, Phommachnah was first at 14’-5”. Second place was Bunnell’s Denaye Maxwell at 13’-10”. In third was Bunnell’s Karima Hamada with a leap of 13’-6”.
In the High Jump, Immaculate’s Nicoletti finished her day with a jump of 5’-3”. Bunnell’s Phommachnah was second at 4’-8”. In third was Bunnell’s Toni Greene at 4’-6”.
In the Triple Jump, Bunnell’s Aliya Nichols was first with a jump of 29’-1” and K. Hamada was second at 26’-5”. There was no third place finisher.
In the Pole Vault, Nieto was first at 6’-’6”. Second was Bernadel at 6’-6”. In third was Bunnell’s Taylor Niemic at 5’-6”.
In the final event on the track for the afternoon it was all Bunnell in the 4X400. The team of Greene, Nieto, Niemiec, and Bernadel raced to a finish of 4:32.
The final score from Bunnell, Bunnell 111 - Immaculate 25,. Bunnell goes to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the SWC.
