Concerned Parents Schedule Rally

Parents Opposed to BOE De-magnitizing Plan Stage Rally

As the Stratford Board of Education comes under fire for proposing the de-magnitizing of Stratford Academy, the town's only intra-magnet school, parents have scheduled a rally.

The rally will take place Monday, May 14th, 6pm at the Stratford Town Hall Green. Organizers of the event, No Plan No Action, are asking concerned citizens to come out and let their voices be heard. They're asking for participants to bring a friend and/or a sign. This rally takes place right before the monthly Town Council meeting, and before a possible special meeting of the Board of Education.

The Stratford Board of Education is proposing Realignment, de-magnitizing of Stratford Academy, consolidating classes, layoffs, cuts to transportation and the elimination of all after school activities to cover a $2.2 million shortfall as a result of asking the Town to fund them less than they needed to operate.

Parents opposing the proposals argue that the BOE can make cuts elsewhere and that cutting transportation and De-magnitizing will not save enough to stop any layoffs. They are also asking for an operational audit.
