Letter To The Editor: State Rep 'Angry' With Opponent's Campaign

"I surely expected better than continued fearmongering," writes state Rep. Phil Young of his opponent, Jim Feehan.

To the editor,

This has been a challenging year for all of us, both individually and for our community. While elections are opportunities for voters to make a choice about the future and who they think best represents their interests and vision, the disruptions of 2020 have highlighted the importance of leadership.

I had looked forward to this campaign and securing your support for reelection as your state representative based on my voting record, values, and commitment to Stratford.

I expected a campaign of ideas. I also expected to clash with my opponent but to do so with integrity, decency, and respect for the position. I surely expected better than continued fearmongering from Jim Feehan, intentionally distorting my voting record and lying about me, personally.

I am angry and you should be, too.

It seems he has no agenda other than repeated false accusations and his only “plan” for Connecticut’s future is a snapshot of issues I have long supported or already voted to pass.

I trust the voters to see through this, but running an entire campaign built on lies undermines the public trust and hurts our democracy.

Regardless of the outcome of the election, I know my integrity remains intact. But my opponent’s campaign has been a disservice to voters and makes me think — if this is the best the Republican Party can offer Stratford, you deserve better.

Phil Young

State representative, District 120
