Obituary: James Duffy III, 77, of Stratford
Jim served as a U.S. Marine, worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years and was heavily involved in many community organizations.
STRATFORD, CT - (From Adzima Funeral Home) James Duffy III, age 77, of Stratford, beloved husband of Christine Thyse Duffy passed away on June 16, 2021, in Bridgeport Hospital.
Jim was born in Bayonne, New Jersey on December 9, 1943, to the late James and Agnes (Hamilton) Duffy and had been a longtime area resident.
He was a graduate of LaSalle University and was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War. Jim retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and following his retirement, was a substitute teacher for the Stratford Board of Education.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8 at St. Mark Church and was active with the Fairfield Prep Alumni’s Food Kitchen Ministry.
Jim was a fan of the New York Yankees and Giants and also enjoyed classical music, singing as well as historical books.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 45 years, include his devoted children, James C. Duffy and his wife Amanda of Stratford, Joseph Duffy of Stratford, and Theresa Jontz and her husband James of Brooklyn, NY, 3 cherished grandchildren, J.R., Angeline, and Ethan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 22nd at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Mark Church 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford.
Full military honors will take place immediately following. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in James’ memory to the Merton Center, www.themertoncenter,org.
