Open Letter: State Rep Candidate Feehan Makes Pitch To Voters

"While the presidential race consumes most of our media, it is imperative that the race for state representative not be ignored."

To the voters of the 120th:

Without a doubt, we are living in uncertain times and nobody could have predicted what we have experienced in the last nine months. On Election Day, you the voter possess the unique duty and privilege to choose who will lead us in the uncertain months ahead. While the presidential race consumes most of our media, it is imperative that the race for state representative not be ignored.

Throughout the summer and fall, I put on my mask and knocked on thousands of doors in the 120th District. Many of you told me of your concerns — the health of your family, the safety of your children and grandchildren, protecting our police, taxes and the harsh economic impact that COVID-19 has put on our state. We cannot know what challenges lie ahead for Connecticut, but you can choose the best person to represent you in Hartford during these times.

So many chapters of my life and training, whether as a Marine, a fire lieutenant, or even a councilman, were devoted to serving my community and keeping my fellow citizens safe. I am proud to be the only candidate in this race to receive the endorsement of the Connecticut Fraternal Order of Police and the Connecticut State Police Union. We cannot tie the hands of our first responders, or endanger the lives of our children by removing school resource officers. As a father and former Board of Education member, I want to ensure the best education for our kids in whatever form necessary.

Keeping Connecticut affordable is also a major concern. I spoke to our neighbors, including parents and seniors, who had put their houses up for sale and were moving to other states because they simply could no longer afford to live here. I am proposing a 2 percent reduction in the state income tax to get much-needed relief to our citizens, jumpstart our economy, and force state government to spend wisely.

Finally, I care about the people of Stratford and I will be there for you. Your concerns are mine and I pledge to be responsive and communicate frequently. Together, we can build a future for Connecticut — one that is a safer, more prosperous, free of racism, and abounding in opportunity for everyone. This Connecticut will be a community we will all be proud of.

I respectfully ask for your vote on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Jim Feehan
