Popular Restaurant Closes Abruptly In Stratford
The restaurant's sudden closure took customers and employees by surprise.

STRATFORD, CT — Marnick’s Restaurant, a longtime waterfront staple in the Lordship section of Stratford, closed abruptly over the weekend, according to the Connecticut Post.
The Post reports Marnick’s Restaurant, along with the Rodeway Inn, were sold following an extended search for a buyer. The sudden closure of the restaurant, located at 10 Washington Parkway for several decades, took customers and employees by surprise, according to the Post. A longtime Marnick’s employee told the Stratford Star that they were notified at about midnight on Friday about the closure and sale but had no idea about it before it was announced. The guests of the Rodeway Inn were out of the hotel by Sunday, according to the Star.

There was no notice of the closure on the restaurant’s website or Facebook page. The last post on the Facebook page was on July 15.
Marnick’s Restaurant & Rodeway Inn was described as “truly an all season get-a-way” on its website. The restaurant and hotel first opened in 1956. Marnick’s had an extensive menu, serving breakfast, lobster rolls (including the King Lobster Roll “double the meat”), specialty sandwiches, grinders and more.

“Our motel rooms are all comfortably furnished and waterfront rooms offer a spectacular view of Long Island Sound,” reads a post on the website. “We are unique in the fact that we are directly on the beach, and your views are unobstructed, enjoy the ocean view from our new deck & bar, like the sound of the surf, leave your patio door open, relax and enjoy.”
