STRATFORD, CT — The public is invited to comment during a virtual hearing next week regarding the Stratford Army Engine Plant stewardship agreement.

A virtual public informational hearing, hosted by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, to review a draft Stewardship Permit Renewal for the Stratford Army Engine Plant Property will be held at 6 p.m. on May 12, Mayor Laura R. Hoydick announced this week.

The Stewardship Permit’s purpose is to “require the completion of investigation, remediation, and long-term stewardship requirements including monitoring of environmental conditions, engineered controls, and institutional controls, as applicable,” according to a news release. “The permit requires financial assurances and public participation in final remedy decisions. The Stewardship Permit ensures that the statewide environmental remedy remains effective into the future.”
