Stratford, Bunnell Go Remote Through Holidays Due To Coronavirus

STRATFORD, CT — Many Stratford students who returned to the classroom in early December after several weeks of remote learning will now switch back to online-only education, officials announced Monday.

Both Stratford and Bunnell high schools will pivot to distance learning through the holiday break after one coronavirus case was disclosed Monday at each school, according to the school district. The high schools hope to return to hybrid learning Jan. 4.

“Unfortunately, the impact on our staff has made it difficult for us to continue the current hybrid learning model that supports in-person instruction for those students who have continued to come to school each day,” Stratford High School Principal Jack Dellapiano said Monday in an email to parents.

The SAILS and STEPS programs at Bunnell and the BRIDGES program at Stratford will resume on-campus learning Thursday, according to the district.

Elementary schools have also been affected by the virus in recent days. Second-grade classes are going remote at Second Hill Lane Elementary School after a case was reported Sunday. A positive virus test and a presumptive case disclosed Sunday at Victoria Soto Elementary School has resulted in pre-kindergarten students moving to distance learning.

District-wide as of early Tuesday, 26 students and 13 staff members were in isolation with the virus, and 234 students and staffers were quarantined, according to the district dashboard, which reflects the most current available numbers.
