Stratford Firefighters Rescue Kitten From Storm Drain

The kitten, which fire officials described as 'slightly scared but happy to be rescued,' was given to animal control for treatment.

STRATFORD, CT — A crew of more than 10 emergency responders rescued a kitten from a storm drain Monday in Stratford, according to a fire department news release. Fire officials were contacted just after 9 a.m. by an animal control officer who needed help saving a two- to three-week-old kitten trapped in a drain near Walgreens, 1606 Barnum Ave.

The kitten had crawled about 10 feet into the pipe, according to a Facebook post from Stratford Animal Control. Eleven fire department personnel used special equipment and water gear to complete the rescue, which took almost two hours, according to the news release. The kitten, which fire officials described as "slightly scared but happy to be rescued," was given to animal control for treatment.
