First of all, thank you to the 1,700 citizens who participated in the Democratic primary last week (See related Patch story).

It was a hard fight, but thanks to the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly on my campaign, we got the word out and prevailed. I can never thank these hard-working folks enough.

Actually, I’m asking them to continue working. The real battle to give a voice to the majority of citizens in town will be won on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Our current mayor ensures a select few are happy. We need a mayor who will be there for all of Stratford.

We know our taxes are too high. We know there are places where money can be saved or spent more efficiently. We know there are sources for aid and grants that this administration has ignored and lost.

We know there are opportunities to bring in new revenue now. We know that this mayor is not available to meet with the people of Stratford to hear about their problems or to help them find solutions.

I invite anyone who has cringed when paying their taxes, anyone who didn’t understand why certain lightly traveled roads in the North End were plowed days before major thoroughfares south of Barnum Avenue, anyone who is sick and tired of rising sewer usage fees, to join me and my team in bringing a new day and a new way to Stratford’s Town Hall.

You deserve more than a coat of paint six weeks before the election.

Let’s work together!

Joe Paul
