Thousands Lose Power In Stratford

More than 5,000 United Illuminating Co. customers lost power Monday afternoon, according to the company's outage map.

STRATFORD, CT — Thousands of people were without electricity Monday afternoon in Stratford.

As of about 4 p.m., 5,325 United Illuminating Co. customers in town had lost power, according to the company's outage map, although just minutes later, electricity was restored to all but a few customers.

The outages came as heavy wind and rain battered the state, dropping trees and utility poles onto power lines. The strongest winds were expected to sweep most of southern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service.
