Vehicle Procession Set For Memorial Day In Stratford

There won't be a parade this year, but a procession of emergency vehicles will honor those who lost their lives in military service.

STRATFORD, CT — Stratford's Memorial Day parade has been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak, but first responders will recognize those who lost their lives in military service with a procession of public safety vehicles set for Monday morning.

The procession will take place at 11 a.m., beginning at Paradise Green and proceeding to Academy Hill. Monday's procession will be the latest of several similar events in town to raise residents' spirits during the virus outbreak, which has resulted in thousands of Connecticut deaths and the closure of schools and many businesses.

"While we are deeply disappointed that we are unable to conduct our traditional Memorial Day ceremony at Academy Hill followed by our parade, I want to extend to all of you my best wishes for a Happy Memorial Day to you and your family," Mayor Laura Hoydick said in an email to residents. "While (we) may not be able to gather this year as we usually do, the appreciation we all share for those who served and sacrificed their lives in our nation's armed conflicts is as strong as ever."
