Weston Too Much For Bunnell and Kolbe In SWC Matchup
Both Teams Out Muscled During Field Events in Tri-Meet
On Monday May 10th the Bunnell Boys Track and Field team traveled to Weston High School to take on the Trojans and the Kolbe Cathedral Cougars in a South West Conference tri-meet head to head contest.
At the fan friendly confines of Weston High School the skies were mostly cloudy , temperatures in the 50’s, the occasional cool northwest breeze, with gentle throwback music playing throughout the entire meet.
Up first was the 4X800 Relay race. The only entry was Bunnell’s team of Armand Fabrizi, Vincenzo Fabrizi, Dominck Puzzo, and Mario Oliva. They ran unopposed in a time of 9:40.

The next race was the 4X100 Relay race. Weston’s team of Douglas Phillips, Tyler Schiffer, Matthew Bigelow, and Jack Spencer took first place with a time of 44.8 seconds.
Kolbe’s team of Dankel Simon, Michael Ricketts, Tyrell Brown, and Williams Vargas took second place in a time of 47.2 seconds.
Bunnell’s team of Guido Llanos, Mikael Francis, Maurice Neri, and Jonathan Gulish came in third place in a time of 48.3 seconds.

In the 110 Hurdles, Weston’s Jacob Fine was first at 18.0 seconds. Bunnell’s Neri was second at 19.9 seconds. Bunnell’s Huy Huong was third at 23.8 seconds.
In the 100 Meter race, Weston’s Rex Kaplan was first in a time of 11.6 seconds. Kolbe’s Ricketts was second at 11.9 seconds followed by teammate Vargas in third at 12.0 seconds.
The Javelin event saw Bunnell’s Jakub Olechno’s five meet first place streak come to an end as Weston’s Kevin Joyce threw to a 134’-6” mark. Olechno was second with a mark of 123’-5”. Weston’s Daniel Ortiz was third with a 120’-2” throw.
In the 1600 Meter race, Weston’s Cole Mancinelli raced off to a first place time of 4:51. In second place, with a personal best time, Bunnell’s Puzzo at 5:23. In third place, also with a personal best time, was Bunnell’s V. Fabrizi in a time of 5:26.
The 400 Meter race saw Bunnell’s Gulish in first, with his season’s best, in a time of 51.9 seconds. In second place, Weston’s Schiffer with a time of 55.6 seconds. In third place, Weston’s Kevin Manea with a time of 60.1 seconds.
In the 300 Hurdle event, Weston’s Fine was first at 45.6 seconds. He was followed by teammate Jack Haythorn with a time of 48.1. In third place, Bunnell’s Neri in a time of 50.3 seconds.
The story emerging for Weston this afternoon was their dominance in the field events. After it was all said and done they were able to attain, out of a possible twenty-one combinations of first, second, and third places, sixteen spots, with an unfilled third place in the high jump event equaling 52 out of a possible 62 points.
In the Discus event, Weston’s Ortiz was first with a heave of 113’-10”. In second place, Weston’s Richard Palmer with a mark of 85’-2”. In third place, Bunnell’s Llanos with an 84’-5” mark.
Weston went on to sweep the Shot Put event as Ortiz led all with a throw of 40’-5.5”. Jonathan Dalrymple was second with a mark of 35’-3”. In third place, James Nevitt with a distance of 28’-11”.
In the Long Jump, it was Weston’s Bigelow with a leap of 19’-10”. In second place, Kolbe’s Vargas at 17’-8.5”. In third place, Weston’s Luke Rubin with a distance of 17’-7”.
In the High Jump event, Weston’s Dylan Chicha was first at 5’-4”. In second place, by the rules of high jump, Bunnell’s Olechno at 5’-4”. There was no third place finisher.
In the 800 Meter race, Weston continued their winning ways with a sweep. In first place, Cooper Clemens in a time of 2:06.7 seconds. In second place, Brandon Leuzzi with a time of 2:06.9 seconds. In third place, Cooper Capola in a time of 2:11 seconds.
In the Triple Jump event, Weston’s Jay Watson came in first with a mark of 33’-0”. In second place with a mark of 31’-6” Weston’s Haythorn. In third place, Bunnell’s Bolelembe Iboki with a distance of 31’-6”.
In the 200 Meter race, Bunnell’s Gulish was first in a time of 23.3 seconds. In second place, by .02 of a second, Weston’s Doug Phillips with a time of 24.71 seconds. In third place, Kolbe’s Ricketts in a time of 24.73 seconds.
In the 3200 Meter race, it was a two man race from start to finish with Weston’s Mancinelli and Bunnell’s M.Oliva. They stayed even for the first five laps before Mancinelli took a slight lead nearing the middle of lap five. During lap seven, M. Oliva creeped his way back to even up the race. In the final 150 meters, of lap eight, Mancinelli was one stride ahead then M. Oliva made a push and he gained a minuscule lead. With thirty meters to go Mancinelli would have the last push and cross the finish line with a time of 10:35.75 M. Oliva in at 10:36. 01.
For M. Oliva, his 10:36.01 finish became his personal best time in the 3200 Meter race.
Bunnell’s Puzzo finished in third place with a time of 11:49.
The final event on the track saw Weston’s 4X400 team of Ryan Ruppraacht, Schiffer, Fine, and Clemens with the win over Bunnell’s team of Gulish, Llanos, A.Fabrizi, and Mikail Francis (3:55) with a time of 3:47.
In the Pole Vault event, it was all Weston as Bigelow went over the top at 15’-0”. In second place, Fine at 12’-6”, and in third place, Rubin at 9’-0”.
On the afternoon Weston went 2-0, Bunnell went 1-1, and Kolbe went 0-2.
Bunnell scores went, Weston 109 - Bunnell 40. Weston 115 - Kolbe Cathedral 14. Bunnell 114 - Kolbe Cathedral 25.
Bunnell now stands at 3 wins and 4 losses.
