Tesoro: Trumbull Already Working On Amazon Impact

TRUMBULL, CT — Amazon is planning to bring a new distribution center to Trumbull.

The company purchased a vacant 114,000 square foot warehouse at 7120 Main Street for $7.5 million, said town Economic and Community Development Director Rina Bakalar. The deal closed Jan. 22.

Approximately 150 permanent jobs are expected with potential for other entrepreneurial opportunities., Bakalar said. The company recently shared preliminary plans with the town and is now working on getting building permits in place.

Property records show the building last appraised at $5.76 million in 2017 and that it is 114,000 square feet. It has been vacant for more than a decade.

First Selectman Vicki Tesoro said she is pleased Amazon picked a spot in Trumbull and the town is already working to analyze traffic changes and how it could affect things such as school traffic and transfer station activities. Planning the town's economic growth in a safe way that provides the maximum benefit to Trumbull is important, she said.

"The town will benefit from grand list growth, approximately 150 new jobs and other spin off economic benefit," Tesoro said. "I want to assure residents and area businesses my staff and I are working closely with town officials including the Police Commission, Amazon and their representatives, the Greater Bridgeport Transit District and others to insure we are ready for the traffic increase."

Amazon recently announced its upcoming Stratford “last mile” facility will bring hundreds of delivery jobs to the area. The facility is expected to open sometime between spring and fall of 2020.

Amazon also has a larger North Haven fulfillment center that opened in 2019. It was projected to bring up to 1,800 full-time jobs to the area. There is also a Windsor fulfillment center.
