'Biggest Chance for Significant Snow' for Trumbull in This Week's Forecast

A hazardous weather outlook already has been issued for a storm that could hit Connecticut by the end of the week.

For most of us who had not seen any real snow on the ground this winter, we can check that off after Sunday and early Monday’s snow showers and squalls.

And the National Weather Service already is looking toward the future and has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for all of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties for a storm that is in reality five days a way.

The weather service’s statement is brief except to say, “THERE IS A CHANCE OF A WINTER STORM LATE FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT.”

This appears more likely to be a southern Connecticut snowstorm, if it materializes, as there is a “low probability” of a weekend storm in Hartford and Tolland counties right now.

According to the weather service, there is a 50 percent chance of snow developing Friday night and a 60 percent chance of snow on Saturday. It will definitely be cold enough to support snow as high temps will be just below freezing on Saturday and Friday night temps will be in the low 20s.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote on Facebook, “Our overnight computer model runs still show the potential for a snowstorm late Friday and Saturday morning.”

“No big change on our overnight computer guidance with a big storm still forecast for Friday night and Saturday morning. This is by far the biggest chance for significant snow we’ve had all season (though that’s not exactly saying much),” Hanrahan wrote on his blog, while stressing there is no guarantee that we’ll get hit with a major storm.

Before The Possible Big Storm

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Temps will barely make 30 degrees and at night it will drop back into the teens.

On Tuesday, more sunshine with temps near 30, on Wednesday temps will reach the mid 30s with more sunshine, and the same is forecast for Thursday, before the possibility of snow developing Friday night.
