Knife-Wielding Man Cuts Himself By Accident: Trumbull PD

TRUMBULL, CT — A Shelton man who threatened a person with a knife ended up cutting himself, according to police.

The person who filed the complaint told police June 24 that he had a disagreement with someone on Facebook. The two decided to meet in person at Trumbull High School to further discuss their disagreement, according to police.

Michael Champagne, 55, of Shelton videotaped the conversation and the other person decided to walk home, police said.

Champagne followed the person to his home and another argument started, according to police. Champagne pulled out a 3.5-inch knife and swiped at the other person, but missed.

Champagne cut his thumb while taking out the knife, police said. He left the scene and was arrested by police on a nearby street. He is charged with first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct and criminal attempt at second degree assault. He was held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
