School Trainers Earn Prestigious PBIS Endorsement

TRUMBULL, CT - From Cooperative Educational Services: Two trainers with Cooperative Educational Services (C.E.S.) have earned the first prestigious endorsements from the Northeast Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (NEPBIS) network.

Tracey Lamothe of Madison and Dr. Christine Peck of Oxford are among the first five PBIS trainers in the 10 Northeast states to receive the endorsement following a multi-year period of collaboration and training with a research group coordinated by the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education.

Developed by the U.S. Department of Education, PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) is a proactive framework of progressive discipline that improves schools by teaching students about behavior expectations, rewarding positive behavior and identifying issues through data. In the end, the goal is to help students achieve social, emotional and academic success.

The endorsement designates Lamothe and Peck as knowledgeable, effective trainers who offer high-quality assistance for schools who wish to implement PBIS systems that suit their individual needs. The process that led to endorsement included demonstrating the ability to train and support schools in implementing PBIS.

“This is significant evidence that schools that use Tracey and Christine to train staff and implement the PBIS framework with fidelity, will benefit at high levels,” said Esther Bobowick, director of Professional Development Services at C.E.S. “They are available to our member districts and schools, pre-k through 12, for new or refresher training in order to help schools address absenteeism, classroom engagement, in and out of school suspensions and bullying, as well as creating a positive climate in the school.”

Over the past eight years, Lamothe and Peck have worked with approximately 60 different schools.
