St. Catherine of Siena helps families in Bridgeport keep warm
More than 1,600 pounds of warm clothing were supplied to families in inner city Bridgeport through Blessed Sacrament Church and Merton House
Hundreds of families in inner city Bridgeport will keep warm this winter thanks to the generosity of parishioners at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Trumbull. Sixty large bags full of coats, sweaters, hats, scarves, gloves and more -- more than 1,600 pounds of warm winter clothing -- were delivered to Blessed Sacrament Church and the Merton House last week, who sent their heartfelt thanks.
Saint Paul teaches us, ‘Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.’ 2 CORINTHIANS 9: 6-7. We are grateful to all of the volunteers and donors who made our annual winter clothing drive a great success.
The Parish’s Annual Hat, Coat & Sweater Drive was organized by St. Catherine’s Social Justice and Charitable Outreach team, led by Salvatore Spadaccino. Other initiatives that the Social Justice & Charitable Outreach Team has worked on include: toiletry drive, school backpack drive, Thanksgiving food drive, annual Parish giving tree, pro-life baby shower, and more.
