St Joseph High School Announces 2019 Maroon & Gold Gala Honorees
The Maroon & Gold Gala is open to the public and all proceeds benefit St Joseph High School's Scholarship Fund.
On Saturday, November 16, St Joseph High School will host their annual Maroon & Gold Gala at the Waterview in Monroe, CT. During the event, St Joseph High School will recognize the dedication of Mary Ellen & Matthew Adzima as well as the spiritual leadership of Monsignor Robert E Weiss.
Monsignor Weiss is currently the Pastor of St Rose of Lima Parish in Newtown. He is recognized for his numerous community causes as well as his spiritual guidance after the Sandy Hook tragedy. His wisdom, spiritual leadership, and generosity have impacted the lives of many. He has long been the embodiment of Catholic values in education, having supported many, many students at Trinity Catholic, St Joes Shelton, St Andrews in Bridgeport, St Leo’s, St Jude’s, and Immaculate High School. Msgr Weiss has been leading young people in the way of faith, family and friendship all his life.
“To follow Father Bob is to follow his confident search for God’s love in every face and in every corner of this world,” remarked Dr William Fitzgerald, Head of School. “He is a spiritual force in the Diocese of Bridgeport. For Father Bob, it is not about the plaques, it is always about the person. We are a better people for his ministry. With much gratitude, we recognize his spiritual leadership.”

Mary Ellen ’83 & Matthew Adzima P ’11, ’14, ’16, are extraordinary supporters of St Joseph High School. To say they bleed Maroon and Gold is an understatement, as they have been involved in just about every committee and volunteer activity throughout the last 20 years. As one of nine siblings to attend St Joes, Mary Ellen knew firsthand the strong family and community values that St Joes fosters for our students and families. They, and their three children, along with nineteen first cousins, have fashioned the St Joes Way.
“The Adzimas get my ‘nicest persons ever’ award,” remarks Dr Fitzgerald, who calls Matt Adzima the “Parents’ Ambassador.” “Matt doesn’t know how much he has shaped the St Joes you know. And Mary Ellen? There’s no calculating how much she has contributed. Everywhere I turn, she is engaged in some event or activity or program, and I know I’ve overlooked a lot. We are blessed to have them.”
