Mall and police officials decided it would be best to close the mall an hour early due to social media posts discovered Monday afternoon.
TRUMBULL, CT — The Westfield mall closed an hour early Monday due to social media postings, according to police. Police and mall officials conferred and mall officials decided to shut down the mall out of an abundance of caution, according to police. The posts were discovered Monday afternoon.
"Police will continue to be vigilant at the Westfield Shopping Plaza and other retail areas throughout the town," police said in a statement on Facebook.
The mall closed down at 6 p.m. Monday.

The social media posts mentioned a possible protest around 8 p.m., said Lt. Brian Weir, police spokesman.
