Trumbull Volleyball Spikes Westhill For 1st State Championship
The Eagles swept Westhill in three straight games to win the school's first volleyball state title.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Heading into Saturday night's Class LL championship match against Westhill, the girls volleyball team from Trumbull High School seemingly had nothing to lose. The Eagles were the No. 8 seed and had never made a state championship appearance before.
That all meant absolutely nothing, as Trumbull swept three games from No. 3 Westhill to capture the state title. Game scores were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-20.
Tournament Most Valuable Player Ashleigh Johnson contributed 13 digs, two kills and an ace to the winning effort. Bailey Cenatiempo had 10 kills and 21 digs, Lindsay Gibbs had nine kills, and setter Ali Castro had 30 assists, nine digs and two kills.
