All Vernon Students To Be In School 'Full-Time' Monday

The morning drop-offs at Vernon schools could take longer Monday with students returning full-time.

VERNON, CT — The safety chief for the Vernon public school system is urging students and parents to build a little extra time into their schedules Monday morning as classes return to full-time status.

Students at Vernon Center Middle School and Rockville High School will begin attending classes four days per week staring Monday. Wednesday will be a virtual and cleaning day.

Vernon Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary said the opt-out rate amid the coronavirus pandemic is down to 23 percent.

"It's going to feel more like the first day of school than a day in late April," said Steven Langlais, the logistics and safety supervisor for the local education system.

Police will be stationed at key spots at both VCMS and RHS, he said.

Those coming to the high school from points west of the Route 83-Loveland Hill Road intersection may have to contend with a lane closure associated with the Safe Routes to School sidewalk project, he said.

Traffic has sporadically been backing up over the course of about a month because of the work.
