VERNON, CT — Construction on a new artificial turf field and new track and field surface at the Rockville High School stadium is scheduled to begin June 1, a date necessary for the complex to be ready for the start of the 2021-22 school year on Sept. 1.

The Vernon Board of Education approved the construction timetable Tuesday. The $1.5 million project was approved by voters at an April town meeting. The tally was 336 yes votes and 128 no votes.

Vernon Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary said an artificial surface will add 30 to 35 days of usage to the complex because of fewer drainage and weather-related issues.
