Bidding Waived for Amerbelle Project

The Vernon Town Council recently voted unanimously to waive the process.

Town Administrator John Ward urged the council to waive the bidding process for the next phase of the project, citing the experience the current firm has on the site. GZA Environmental of Glastonbury has been working on the site and has completed an environmental assessment, which includes a survey of hazardous materials and how to remove them.

The next step in the process is to implement the environmental clean up, and it is anticipated that some buildings will need to be demolished.

Vernon recently received an additional $2 million dollars in Department of Economic and Community Development grant funding to continue remediation work of the greater Amerbelle Mill complex.

These funds are in addition to the $2.5 million awarded by DECD in 2014 for assorted Brownfield funding to assess several former mill sites, including the former Hockanum Mill, Amerbelle Mill, and Daniels Mill in Rockville.
