Brush Fire Breaks Out On Vernon Property

Firefighters had to contend with a brush fire that broke out in Vernon Monday.

VERNON, CT — Vernon firefighters made quick work of of a pesky brush fire Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out behind 10 West St. on a back parcel about there houses from the Ellington line, fire marshal Dan Wasilewski said.

It burned approximately a half-acre and was threatening a nearby building, he said.

Firefighters were able to get to it before any further damage, Wasilewski said.

It was caused by improperly disposed of fire pit, Wasilewski said. He urged residents to douse the ashes thoroughly before dumping them.

Brush fire danger has been high in the past few days with low humidity, breezy conditions and dry terrain, he said.
