VERNON, CT — A suspected drunken driver nearly took out a police cruise at the scene of a serious accident last week, and has been charted with driving under the influence as a result, police said.

The crash took place at 12:24 a.m. on Dec, 27 at the intersection of Hartford Road (state Route 30) and Rockledge Drive. According to a report, a 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a 1999 Chevy Blazer collided and what police said was an "adult female" was taken to an area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed, but the crash is still being investigated, police said.

The DUI charge was levied on a 29-year-old Middletown mad who refused to stop at the scene, according to a report.

Police saw a 2020 Nissan Altima with Maryland registration plates approaching the crash scene without slowing down, according to a report. Officers were finally able to get the driver's attention, but he narrowly missed hitting a police vehicle before stopping, a report indicates.

The 29-year-olf driver then failed roadside sobriety tests and was arrested, according to a report.
