"The men and women of our U.S. Coast Guard perform important, often dangerous work all around the globe," Courtney said. "The scope of their service would surprise most Americans. In New London, the cadets are training to support everything from public safety and our local maritime economies, to national security on our coastlines, to U.S. Navy operations in waters around the world.
"Their success begins in New London, at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and in so many ways the men and women of the Coast Guard are proving every day that the Academy has prepared them not only to take on some of America’s biggest national security challenges, but also to succeed in life after service with top-flight, highly sought-after job skills. Eastern Connecticut is the proud home of so many of our nation’s veterans and active duty service members, and representing the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Congress is a special honor that I will always be grateful for. I am honored to be designated as a member of the bipartisan Board of Visitors for the Coast Guard Academy, and I’m looking forward to joining President Biden tomorrow as we celebrate and congratulate these hardworking young Americans on their achievements."
