Fire Breaks Out At Laundromat In Vernon

A fire that started in a dryer wreaked havoc near in a busy intersection in Vernon Monday.

VERNON, CT — A fire broke out at a laundromat in Vernon Monday evening.

The fire at 77 East St. was reported at about 7 p.m. as firefighters streamed to the scene.

Smoke could be seen billowing from The Usual Place Laundromat, located at the strip shopping plaza at the corner of Route 30 and east tree in the Lafayette section of town.

Authorities at the scene said the fire originated in a dryer at the laundromat.

The fire seemed to be contained to the laundromat and it did not affect adjacent properties like Northeast School. It was extinguished quickly.
