Free Meal Program Continuing In Vernon During Summer

VERNON, CT — Free meals are continuing in Vernon through the Summer.

The town of Vernon through, the Youth Services Department, will be providing free summer meals to families as a continuation of the school system program since the outset of the coronavirus pandemic.

The school system Food and Nutrition Services Department will continue to prepare free meals to all children 18 and younger on the same schedule — Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m. at Vernon Center Middle School.

The program will continue through Aug. 22.

Children do not need to be present and the meals can be picked up by the parent or guardian. Each family will receive two meals per child (breakfast and lunch) for two days.

The program is a drive-through, grab-and-go model, the same distribution model that has been done for the past three months at VCMS.

There will be no meal service on July 3 because of the long holiday weekend.

VCMS will be the lone distribution site. That means no meals at the traditional summer meal sites — Henry Park, Parkwest and Talcott Park.

A state-administered federal subsidy funds the summer program.
