High-Speed Crash Leads To DUI Charge In Vernon
A high-speed crash in Vernon has turned into a drunken driving case, police said.

VERNON, CT — A man who crashed his vehicle into a fence in a densely populated section of Vernon over the weekend has been charged with driving under the influence, a police report indicates.
Details on the July 5 incident were released Friday.
According to a report, at 2:29 a.m. Sunday, an officer observed a vehicle travel past him at a "high rate of speed" first on Windsor Avenue and then on Union Street. Police then located the vehicle crashed against a metal fence at the Oak Street-Union Street intersection.

The driver, identified as 37-year-old Rodney Rhymer of Vernon, failed a field sobriety test after police detected the odor of alcohol on him and he was subsequently charged with driving under the influence, a report indicates.
He was also charged with traveling unreasonably fast, failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving while under suspension. He has an Aug. 10 court date.
