J&J Proves Most Popular at Vernon 'Pick Your Own' Vaccine Clinic

The Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine outlasted two other major brands in popularity at a clinic Tuesday in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — It was Johnson & Johnson out-running Pfizer by two syringes in the race for popularity at Tuesday's "pick your own" coronavorus vaccine clinic in Vernon.

The three-hour clinic was staged at Central Park in front of Vernon Town Hall as part of the town's mobile vaccination unit tour.

Anyone in the state was eligible to walk up to the table and get a free vaccine. All three major brands were being offered — Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer. J&J is a single dose vaccine while the others require two shots.

In all, 36 vaccines were administered.

The Pfizer and J&J shots were the most popular from the onset with eight doses of each given out in the first 30 minutes, along with three Moderna vaccines.

No Moderna shots were administered after that.

In all, J&J won the popularity race with 17 vaccines in all, followed by 15 Pfizer doses.

A second pick your own clinic is slated for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Red Roof Inn, 425 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon.

Vernon has vaccinated thousands through its mobile unit in partnership with Priority Urgent Care in Ellington. Other stops have been at a regional mosque, catholic and congregational churches, a large dairy farm in Ellington, Swiss Cleaners and Rein's Deli in Vernon, the Vernon Senior Center and even house calls at a local mobile home park for the elderly.
