ELLINGTON/VERNON, CT — Two north central Connecticut high school girls lacrosse rivals have made their annual clash about much more than what happens on the field.

It's about hunger awareness.

For several years, Rockville High School and Ellington High School have made the days before their annual game a time to collect food for the less-fortunate and Monday was no exception.

Before the game at Ellington, both teams posed to show off what they collected. As in past years, there were several bags full of food, enough to give several area families full meals.

After the game, the food is donated to the Hockanum Valley Community Council's food pantry.
