VERNON, CT — To The Editor:
Every community is concerned about the success of our youth. Factors that predict positive youth development are school readiness programs; academic success; positive warm parental relationship; healthy social problem-solving skills; feeling connected to school and community; adults who care; a collective view that violence is not acceptable; physical environments that are regularly maintained; economic opportunities; and residents willing to assist each other. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control offers an inventory to communities including these community characteristics, and a manual to assist towns in developing resources to foster positive youth development.
During my career, I have served as a staff member at ECHN, a youth coordinator for the Town of Manchester, the director of the CT Association of Mental Health Clinics for Children, and director of Credit-Free Programs at Manchester Community College. I am now running for the Vernon Town Council.

If elected, I will welcome the opportunity to work with our community members and agencies to assess positive opportunities for youth and families, and to enhance any areas where we might improve our resources. Please vote for me and the Democratic Team on Tuesday, November 5th.
