VERNON, CT — The holiday lights at Henry Park will remain lit until Jan. 7, town officials said Thursday.

The lights have been up for the better part of a month as part of the town's popular Winterfest celebration.

Town crews will begin to remove them Jan. 8.

"This weekend is the last for people to enjoy the lights in Henry Park," Vernon Parks and Recreation Director Marty Sitler said. "We will soon begin the orderly process of removing the hundreds of strings of lights we installed and storing them for next year."

Holiday decorations at Central Park and Town Hall will also be taken down Jan. 8.

The light tour at henry park made its debut at Winterfest on Dec. 4. The celebration was traditionally staged at Central Park, but moved to a drive-through event because of coronavirus restrictions.

Vernon Parks and Recreation and Department of Public Works crews worked for weeks
preparing the park for the event. Holiday lights and displays were placed from the South Street entrance to the park to Fox Hill Tower.

More than 1,000 cars showed up the first night so town officials extended the display.

"We kept the lights illuminated through the holidays so that people could continue to enjoy them," Sitler said.
