Man Brawls His Way Out Of Vernon Store With Cart Full Of Beer: PD
A man trying to steal a cart full of beer caused a scene at a busy Vernon sopping plaza Tuesday, police said.

VERNON, CT — A man trying to steal more than $300 worth of beer caused a scene at a Vernon shopping plaza Tuesday, police said.
At 7:14 p.m., Vernon police went to the Tri-City Plaza at 35 Talcottville Road after receiving a call about a shoplifting incident and subsequent brawl at the ShopRite Supermarket, according to an arrest report.
Police were told that a man in his 30s wearing a "blue puffy jacket" had left the store with a shopping cart full of beer and was pushing it toward Kelly Road.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old John Young, of the Oakville section of Watertown, was fighting with employees while exiting the store, according to a report.
When police tracked him down, Young became "irate" and "aggressive" toward officers and initially refused to address where the beer came from, according to a report. He was eventually arrested, police said.

The cart full of beer had a retail value of $345, police said.
A report did not elaborate on any particular brand of beer.
Young was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree breach of peace and interfering. He was held overnight on $25,000 bail and was to appear in court Wednesday.
