Moped Driver Killed In Wednesday Morning Crash In Vernon

A collision between a truck and moped took the life of a South Windsor man Wednesday in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — The driver of a moped was killed Wednesday morning in a collision involving a pickup truck, police said.

The crash took place at 5:58 a.m. on state Route 30, near the interchange with the Shops at 30 retail plaza, the Vernon public works garage and the Interstate-30 ramps, police said.

The driver of the moped, described by police as an "adult male," was taken to Rockville General Hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward, police said. He was later identified as 70-year-old Owen Wright of South Windsor.

According to a report issued later Wednesday, the crash involved a 2009 Dodge Ram pickup operated by a 50-year-old Vernon man. The moped was a Genuine Scooter Company Roughhouse, according to a. report.

Route 30 was closed between Merline Road and Dobson Road for about two hours. The last officer left the scene at about 8:15 a.m.

No charges have been filed.
