The home of an iconic Vernon business that closed is on the market as a rental unit.

VERNON, CT — A commercial property that was once the pillar of commerce in the Rockville section of Vernon is being marketed as a rental.
Signs advertising the vacancy at the former Ladd & Hall furniture store have been up for a couple of weeks now.
Ladd & Hall closed in the fall after being in business since 1937.

The building at 20 East Main Street sits at one end of a plaza adjacent to the municipal government complex on one side and the Tolland County civil courthouse on the other.
Ladd & Hall had also occupied an 1800s factory building on Brooklyn Street that it used for storage.

What seemed like an endless series of roadside signs had promoted a going out of business sale, adding drama to the closing of the iconic store.
The Rockville Downtown Association lamented the demise when the announcement was made.
"It saddens us to hear of Ladd and Hall Closing," an association Facebook post read. "They have been a staple in our community for 83 years. "The Olsen Family over the years have given to many charitable organizations, severed on local committees and boards. Thank you for all you have done over the years for Rockville/Vernon."
Vernon Economic Development Director Shaun Gately said the Olsen family has had the entire plaza on the market for years.
He, also, was saddened by the news.
"Ladd & Hall has been a staple in the Vernon business community for so many years and we're grateful to have had them for so long," he said at the time of the closing. "Furniture is tough tough brick-and-mortar business to be in right now and the fact that Ladd & Hal has been around so long is a testament to the quality of the people and product."
With the exit of Ladd & Hall the plaza now features a Pizza restaurant, a package store and a convenience store.
