Tolland Republicans Nominate Newcomer For Vacant Council Seat
A newcomer to the community has been picked for a town council vacancy in Tolland.

TOLLAND, CT — The Tolland Republican Town Committee has endorsed a new resident to fill a vacancy on the town council.
In a letter addressed to the Tolland Town Clerk, Tolland Republicans endorsed resident Sophia Johnson for the seat. Johnson relocated to Connecticut from Long Island in February, TRTC Chairwoman Lisa Burns. said.
Burns has requested that the endorsement be added to the April 27 Town Council agenda.

The endorsement resulted from a recent resignation of Republican Council member Cassandra Forsythe-York.
York was sworn in April 2020 and served on the council for one year. She took the place of Robert Abbate Jr., who resigned from the council for personal reasons, Burns said.

Since June 2012, Johnson has served as the information specialist for the Incorporated Village of Freeport. Johnson managed the internal and external communications regarding Freeport Village, organized community events, and was a liaison with Freeport Village residents, businesses and government officials.
If the nomination is approved by the council, Johnson's term will run until November 2021.
