VERNON, CT — A commercial utility vehicle wound up in the Hockanum River late Thursday morning after an accident at a West Main Street housing complex.

The crash took place at 10:45 a.m. at 121 West Main St. — the Florence Mill apatments.

The white van appeared to have turned off West Main Street and the driver apparently lost control or lost his brakes while heading downhill on the steep driveway. The van then sped through the parking lot, crashed through a chain link fence and careened down a hill toward the river.
