Vernon Cops Looking For Hit-And-Run Driver In Serious Crash

A driver left the scene of a crash that left another driver with serious injuries Sunday, police said.

VERNON, CT — Vernon Police are looking for the public's help in their efforts to locate a vehicle that left the scene of a serious crash on Route 83 Sunday night.

The crash took place at 11:13 p.m. near Juliano’s Pools, 321 Talcottville Road.

A vehicle collided with a pole after being hit, police said.

Police determined that a blue Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on Route 83 and was struck from behind by another vehicle. As a result, the Toyota hit a utility pole and the driver, the sole occupant of the car, suffered serious injuries, police said.

The vehicle that rear-ended the Toyota then left the scene, police said.

The driver of the Toyota was being treated at Hartford Hospital for injuries that police described in a report as being serious, but non-life threatening.

Police are looking for the public's help in locating the vehicle that struck the Toyota and left the scene. Based on evidence recovered, police believe the second vehicle to be a white Chevrolet Cruze, according to a crash report. The Chevy Cruze suffered front right side damage in the crash, police added.

The crash is being investigated by the Vernon Police Traffic Reconstruction Team working jointly with Metro Traffic Services.
