Vernon Man Ties Up Police For 45 Minutes With Gun Claim
A man was arrested after a brief standoff with police at a Vernon apartment.

VERNON, CT — A man who said he had a gun didn't really have a gun, but he still kept officers busy for about 45 minutes last week in a mild standoff with Vernon police.
That was the indication in a report released this week by Vernon authorities.
At 10:28 p.m. on Feb. 24, Vernon police went to the Vernon Gardens apartment complex at 695 Talcottville Road to investigate a disorderly complaint. As police arrived, the 66-year-old man, barricaded himself inside the apartment said he had a gun and threatened to "shoot," according to an arrest report.

Police were able to get inside the dwelling after about 45 minutes and take the man into custody without any further incident, according to an arrest report.
Vernon police spokesman Lt. William Meier said a gun was never found in the apartment.

The man wound up being charged with third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree breach of peace and interfering with police. He is due in court on April 13.
