Vernon Plans To Offer Public Swimming In 2021: Official
Vernon officials plan to offer a public swimming program in the summer of 2021.

VERNON, CT — There will be some sort of public swimming program in Vernon for the summer of 2021, the town's recreation chief said Wednesday.
"Yes, we plan on offering an aquatics program," Vernon Parks and Recreation Director Marty Sitler said. "I don't know what it will look like exactly, but we will have one."
On a full simmer schedule, the town offers swimming at the Valley Falls Park pond, at Bolton Lake in Newhoca Park and at pools at both Center 375 and Henry Park.

It's not a matter of the coronavirus pandemic, but staffing, Sitler said
"We are aggressively advertising for aquatics staff members," he said.

Applications have been slow to roll in, Sitler said. The returning staff lifeguards are in the process of being re-certified since the inactivity of last season caused many of the Red Cross paperwork to expire, Sitler said.
"It might be all four, but we're not sure," Sitler said. "We will open what we can with what staff we have."
He added there is no set schedule as of this week.
