VERNON, CT — The acquisition of the Victorian Era home adjacent to the Vernon Board of Education building will come full circle next week when it officially renamed The Park Street Learning Center.

The school board purchased the home at 38 Park St. for one buck about two years ago, Superintendent of School Joseph Macary said.

It currently is the host building for expulsion services, and the program for students 18 through 21, Macary said.

The acquisition allowed the school system to save about $60,000 annually by moving programs from a storefront-type space on West Main Street, Macary said.

It also makes more sense.

"It's going very well there," he said. "We're teaching kids daily living skills, and what better way is there to do that than in a house? It's the whole nine yards. It's one of the main reasons why we purchased it."

The Vernon Board of Education is schedule to officially name the building at its Dec. 14 meeting.

Adult education classes take place at Rockville High School.
