VERNON, CT — The Fourth of July is quickly approaching, and that means it's time to fire up that barbecue and find out what's in store for Vernon's annual Fourth of July fireworks festivities.

In Vernon, it's called July in the Sky. It's an event unto itself and the annual gathering draws folks from all over the area to a pair of venues.

Here are the details, so you can start planning now.

  • What: Vernon July in the Sky celebration
  • Where: Downtown Rockville, Henry Park
  • When: July 2

Events are slated at both Henry Park (beginning at 6 p.m.) and Downtown Rockville (beginning at 5:30 p.m.). The fireworks will be shot off after dusk — usually at about 9:20 p.m. — when the "clarity" is at its best, town officials said.

The rain date is July 9.

Henry Park will feature the kids "Fun Zone" and a parade of food trucks.

Vendors, food booths and trucks and other activities will line Central Park in Rockville. The annual Push, Pull and Pedal Patriotic Parade will also be featured downtown.

Northeast School will again not be sanctioned as an official viewing area.
