Vernon's Fireworks Forecast Spot On: Show Goes On Between Storms
The annual July in the Sky fireworks show was back in Vernon Wednesday.

VERNON, CT — The 2021 version of Vernon's July in the Sky fireworks display certainly went off Wednesday, but it would be a fib to say it did so without few hitches. But, in the end, the forecast of town officials and the town's weather service was spot-on and the first major municipal event since the coronavirus pandemic broke out was staged in between storms.
And oh was it interesting — and a week in the making since the original date of June 30 was blown out by a wild thunderstorm.
Fast-forward to Tuesday. Town officials sent out a notice saying the show would go on, adding that the weather pattern was showing a critical window that would allow enough time for the fireworks to be shot off. While some hallelujahs resounded from Talcottville to Lafayette, the Facebook meteorologists took to various sites to proclaim that, this time, the asteroid would indeed hit Earth on an Independence Day celebration.

After conference calls and video meetings and assorted map readings, the town proclaimed that yes, there might be storms, but there was also a lull in the pattern long enough to get the fireworks show in.
More cackling ensued on Facebook, especially when a massive storm hit at around dinnertime.

But then a rainbow came out.
And so did the sun.
And at both Henry Park and in Downtown Rockville, the people showed up. The fireworks went off and, as the finale boomed, so did some thunder. The last wave of rain came as the last firework faded.
But during the exodus to their cars, those who attended didn't seem to mind. In a way, it all seemed to cleanse the consternation of the past 15 months.
