Woman Charged in 5-Year-Old CT Court Bond Refund Forgery Case

VERNON, CT — A woman accused of trying to fudge bond refund checks from a Connecticut courthouse five years ago is facing a first-degree forgery charge after a recent arrest by state police.

First-degree forgery is a Class C felony in Connecticut.

State police released the details of the 2016 case this week. Kristin Brooks, now 39 and 4 at the time of the incident, has also been charged with second-degree larceny. She appeared in court this week and her initial bond of $25,000 was reduced to a promise to appear in court on April 6, judicial system records indicate.

Rockville Superior Court officials filed the complaint on Feb. 24, 2016 after fake checks were attempted to be drawn from the trustee account, according to an arrest report.

The checks were forged to resemble those for bond refunds with the exact account and routing number of the real checks, according to a warrant.

Brooks is accused of attempting to cash them at several services in the area with a state-issued ID with a different list name, according to a warrant.
